Aerial photography and video in Lyme Regis

Most seaside towns spread out along a front; Lyme Regis climbs. The historic core is built on ground so steep that streets switch back on themselves within a few hundred metres of the harbour, and from above that verticality is the whole story: cottages and Georgian townhouses packed tight on near-vertical lanes, Victorian villas stepping up the slope behind them, and the working harbour and the curve of the Cobb sitting at the bottom of it all. A ground photograph can show one street or one building; an aerial pass shows the whole town rising away from the water in a single continuous slope, closer to how the place is actually experienced arriving by boat or by the coast path.

The Cobb itself, the stone harbour arm that has sheltered boats here for centuries, reads as a strong graphic shape from directly above in a way it never quite does from the beach. To the west the ground gives way to the Undercliff, an actively moving landslip coast where cliffs slump and re-form; the boundary between settled town and unstable ground is sharp enough to photograph as a single visible line.

A cottage two streets back from the harbour and a cottage on the front can look identical in a doorway photo but sell for very different money, because in Lyme Regis the value case is largely how far down the hill a buyer has to walk and what they can see once they get there. Estate agents working the town's steep historic core need a shot that actually proves sea view and proximity, not a wide-angle interior and a hope. The same argument runs at the other end of the market: holiday cottage and guesthouse owners on those same steep lanes are competing for bookings against neighbours a few doors along, and a clear aerial view of the Cobb, the beach and the harbour from a specific building does more for a listing than another photo of the bedroom.

The Lyme Regis Museum and the fossil beaches either side of town draw a steady stream of visitors on the strength of the Jurassic Coast's reputation, and an aerial view of the cliffs and foreshore gives that story a sense of scale that a beach-level photo of ammonites in the rock can't provide on its own.

The same ground movement that gives Lyme Regis its dramatic setting also makes it a town worth checking on from above periodically, not just once. Cliff and slope stability along the Undercliff shifts gradually over time, and a set of aerial images taken months or years apart can show changes in the coastline that are difficult to track from ground level, useful context for anyone marketing land or property near the edge of the settled town.

Lyme Regis also sits close enough to Seaton, Bridport and Axminster that a single day's flying can cover several harbour and coastal towns along this stretch without much repositioning time, which keeps costs down for agents or venues working across more than one of them.
